Guidelines
Articles
Articles may be anywhere from 800 to 1,800 words, and must engage the chosen theme on a topic relating to art and experience (examples include films, works by a particular artist, poetic forms, the art of a particular culture, etc). You may choose to write in an expository manner, or to write reflectively from personal experience, or in another equally compelling form. We ask that you write:
- with an eye for excellence of thought and craft
- with attention to an audience looking to engage seriously with questions of purpose and experience
- with the aim of encouraging curiosity and welcoming discussion, rather than airing your convictions for their own sake
- with tenacity and creativity, approaching your subject with an awareness of its complexities and the complexities of your audience
Please send article submissions to fragmentsjournal.olsen@gmail.com
- List email subject as “Article Submission: [Last Name] July/August”
- Include, at the top of your email, your First and Last Name, and email address
- Please provide, at the top of your email, a 2-3 sentence synopsis of your article and its purpose in relation to the chosen theme
- Send article in .doc or .docx format
- Include a brief byline
Creative Work
We accept creative work in the form of poetry, short fiction (up to 2,500 words), visual art, and photography. Please engage the chosen theme thoughtfully. We prize work that excels in clarity of vision rather than moralizes: the riches and implications of reality should be imminent in the texture of your art.
